Three contemporary artists in Art 4

Three contemporary Norwegian artists talk about their art with reference to exhibited works from the collection. Meet the artists in dialogue with their works.

... Heidi Kennedy Skjerve

Nesten grønn (Almost Green)

Time: Thursday 27 September from 18.00–18.30
Venue: National Museum – Art

(Museum of Contemporary Art), Bankplassen 4

Heidi Kennedy Skjerve (born 1954) works in a minimalist tradition in which tiny nuances can have major significance. Her knitted works reflect process, time and precision.

She is represented in Art 4 by the work Nesten grønn (Almost Green) (1995). The artist will talk about her art and working methods in relation to this work.

Skjerve is also represented in the touring exhibition Knitnic, which is currently on show at the National Museum – Design (Museum of Decorative Arts and Design).

... Marianne Bratteli

Catharina

Time: Thursday 11 October from 18.00–18.30
Venue: National Museum – Art

(Museum of Contemporary Art), Bankplassen 4

Marianne Bratteli (born 1951) has a rare talent for combining the playful and the serious. Her paintings are characterised by a high temperature, expressive brushwork and a playful attitude to the artistic process.

She is represented in Art 4 with two works, Catharina (1989) and Berlin (2000). In these she combines painting with collage and assemblage. Bratteli will talk about her working methods and share her thoughts on her artistry.

... Per Inge Bjørlo

Heads from Balance

Thursday 1 November from 17.30–18.30
Venue: National Museum – Art

(Museum of Contemporary Art), Bankplassen 4

Per Inge Bjørlo (born 1952) is best known for his sculptures and installations, but he also excels as a painter and graphic artist. His works often contain personal references, but without being self-centred. He achieves a powerful combination of expressive and minimal elements.

He is represented in Art 4 with the three works: Heads from Balance (1999), Objekter til mor (Objects for Mother) (1991) and Fargane kjem (The Colours are Coming) (1983). The work Indre rom V (Inner Space V) (1990) is on permanent display on the museum’s ground floor.

Bjørlo will show slides and talk about works that illustrate various aspects of his artistic output.
